Forest Ban Ended posited in 317 Kentucky banks. Since 1954 the banks have been paying one percent on approximately half the funds deposited in them.

Before 1954, no interest was paid. The resolution suggested that one-third of state funds be kept in demand deposits, or checking accounts, on which federal regulations prohibit interest payments. The remaining two-thirds would be placed in time deposits, or savings accounts, at 3 per cent interest. Ralph Fontaine, executive vice president of the association, said the resolution was drawn up after a study of interest practices in other states. "We feel this proposal is fair to the state, to the taxpayers and to the banks." Fontaine said the proposed interest rate would be more than many banks in Kentucky now pay their individual depositors.

The bankers elected Robert B. Johnson of Pikeville to the presidency to succeed L. D. Sweazy of Versailles. Earl Templeman of Cecilia was named president-elect and L.

D. Nofsinger of Greenville, treasurer. Named to the executive committee were M. O. DeJarnatt of Paducah, Fred Spires of Bowling Green and John H.

Hardwick of Louisville. FRANKFORT, Nov. 17 (AP) Gov. Edward T. Breathitt today ended the public ban on entry into Kentucky's forests in 62 counties.

However, he warned that dry conditions still exist in some areas of Kentucky. The governor closed woods in all 120 counties last week, then lifted the ban in 58 counties Friday. The lifting of the ban will permit the quail and rabbit hunting seasons to open as scheduled Thursday. In his statement today he said there still is danger of fire, and urged extreme caution by the public. Rain and the forecast of cooler temperatures prompted the latest order.

Fire Control Chief Maynard Marcum said no new fires were reported today, although about 20 old fires were still burning or smoldering. ement kers with ment meld the rch, bath No ment cinwill day the Planning For a NEW SEE PEOPLES FEDERAL NOW For HOME DRIVE-IN WINDOW NITE DEPOSITORY PEOPLE'S FEDERAL SAVINGS LOAN ASSOCIATION 343 So.
